Qualifications:

  • Secondary School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid Coast Scaler license with required endorsements.
  • Valid Interior Scaler license with required endorsements.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related scaling operational experience.
Duties:

The Scaling Officer is responsible to develop, administer and supervise the District Scaling Program according to the Forest Act, Forest and Range Practices Act, Regulations, Scaling Manual, provincial policy and guidelines, and ensures accurate revenue is returned to the Crown. As a designated Forest Officer/Official under the Forest Act, the position carries significant legal authorities, such as entering private land, stopping vehicles, and ordering a person to produce records.

This position provides leadership and guidance to Ministry staff, Industry Clients, Industry Scalers, and First Nations companies at administrative levels.  As a designated Forest Official under the Forest Act this position carries substantial legal authorities such as Compliance and Enforcement actions as it pertains to scaling, entering private land, and issuing cease and desist orders and ordering records when necessary.

Qualifications:

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Diploma or degree in geographic information systems, natural resources management, geography, computer science or a related field and a minimum of five years recent related experience; OR the equivalent combination of training and experience may also be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience developing and managing large spatial and attribute data sets and experience with database management tools and applications.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience developing methodologies, and performing custom geo-spatial data modelling and complex analysis and interpretations.
  • Demonstrated project management/administration experience.
  • Minimum level of 301 Project Management courses.

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) Headquarters is looking for a Geomatics professional to work with the GIS staff in our Northern BCTS business areas. The GIS Coordinator will work to promote cooperation between the business areas, build collaboration to achieve business efficiencies and coordinate efforts with other BCTS GIS teams.

The purpose of this position is to also develop and implement GIS Technology Entry Level Program (GTELP)for the Northern and Provincial needs. GTELP will address ongoing training and effective knowledge transfer needs for BCTS GIS, and maximize the potential of GIS and related geospatial and information technologies to support the business objectives of the program and its clients.
