Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an approved technical institute with a diploma or degree in resource or forestry management.
  • Two years (gained within the last five years) of experience in one or more operational field-based forestry activities such as tenure development, road and block layout, silviculture, timber tenure administration and forestry contract administration.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education or experience such as, or five years (gained within the last seven years) of experience in one or more operational field-based forestry activities such as tenure development, road and block layout, silviculture, timber tenure administration and forestry contract administration.
  • Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals (ABCFP) as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
Duties:

A rewarding opportunity for an experienced forest technologist in Williams Lake

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) was founded in 2003 with a mandate to provide the cost and price benchmarks for timber harvested from public land in British Columbia.  BCTS plans, develops, and auctions as much as 20% of the province’s annual available volume. The bid prices received from auctioned timber and costs of developing the timber are available to support market pricing of the province’s timber. 

BCTS is committed to the safety of all people affected by its operations which is demonstrated by the achievement of SAFE Company certification.  Sound forest management is another commitment of BCTS.  BCTS is the largest tree planter in the province and has achieved and maintained certification of an Environmental Management System in all BAs under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 14001) and achieving Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) certification over 100% of its operating areas.

The Operations Technician is responsible for developing operating standards, implementing new forest management practices, coordinating technical activities, monitoring adherence to legislative, environmental standards and providing technical expertise to staff in Timber Sales License (TSL) development, operations, silviculture and forest health (FH) activities.
