The focus of this role, will be on coaching/developing employees to achieve cost effective results in accordance with safety procedures, as well as constructively directing them to optimize their performance. Another key part of this role will be to plan out the daily, weekly and monthly maintenance work functions.

Qualifications:

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in biological sciences or related field.
  • Minimum six years of related experience (or an acceptable combination of education and experience), including field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime.
  • Registered (or eligible)* as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment.
  • Experience assessing and monitoring natural resources.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Duties:

The Resource Management Division of the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (MFLNRORD) works to maintain and restore the natural diversity of ecosystems, fish and wildlife species and their habitats through the development and implementation of clear strategies, legislation, partnerships, innovative projects, science-based standards and effective monitoring and reporting, while balancing the conservation of Crown Land with resource access and development.

Within the Northeast Regional Operations, the Senior Biologist will assist the Section Head to plan and manage a program area (Fish and Wildlife or Ecosystems related – dependent on incumbent’s skills) at both a strategic and operational level and be required to provide supervision for ≥ 3 direct reports. This position manages financial, contract and human resource functions for assigned program staff.

The Senior  Biologist plans, manages, conducts, co-ordinates, implements and evaluates programs, policies and research and implements strategies and actions for changes and improvements to service and business planning priorities. The Senior Biologist will provide scientific information, advice and leadership to direct reports, the Section Head, Statutory Decision Makers, stakeholders and other programs. As assigned, the Senior Biologist will participate on and/or lead project teams. Additionally, the Senior Biologist may oversee the implementation of First Nation relationship and reconciliation agreements with First Nation communities in the region.
