Salary $61,805.03 - $ 77,194.06 annually


Qualifications for this role include:

  • Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.
  • Registered as a Professional Agrologist, or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Agrologist, with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists.  Note: immediately eligible is defined as being a registered professional member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to the BCIA.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the forage, grains and/or oilseeds industries, including negotiating/mediating solutions including working with industry groups.
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence.

Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.


The Sector Development Branch identifies and promotes agriculture and food production/processing systems that are sustainable and enhance the economic benefits to the province. The Branch leads the Ministry’s agriculture business and industry development including initiatives with First Nations, new entrants, organics and food processing. It maintains operations in all agriculture regions of the province to deliver Ministry programs and services through a network of regional agrologists and industry specialists. The Branch works through a variety of strategic partnerships and is the primary point of contact for the Ministry’s agriculture clients, both businesses and associations. The Branch also provides professional agrologist support to local government planning and emergency response processes, and to both the Agricultural Land Commission and the Farm Industry Review Board.

  • The Forage, Grains and Oilseeds Industry Specialist’s purpose is to provide strategic and technical advice to the Ministry based on a thorough knowledge and analysis of the forage, grain and oilseed industries and their current and emerging issues. This also includes collation and synthesis of industry ideas, concerns and viewpoints in regard to government priorities and activities affecting the sector.
  • The Specialist is expected to work closely with provincial and local industry associations along the industry value chain forging and supporting forage, grain and oilseed production as well as processing and regulatory considerations.
  • It is expected that each Industry Specialist possesses and maintains in-depth expertise in one or more of the specialized sectors while at the same time being able to provide general professional support to the management of cross-sector issues.
