  • Must possess Inter provincial Red Seal certification for a Millwright or a BC Journeyman Certification.
  • Previous work-related skill, knowledge, and experience in a Batch Plant environment is required.
  • Previous maintenance experience on conveyors is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
  • Strength, stamina and the use of proper lifting techniques required for handling items weighing up to 25 kilograms.
  • Good coordination and manual dexterity.
  • The ability to visualize a layout by looking at plans and prints.

Duties:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Read diagrams and schematic drawings and service manuals to determine work procedures.
  • Operate rigging equipment and dollies to place heavy machinery and parts.
  • Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances.
  • Align and test equipment, and make any necessary adjustments.
  • Perform predictive and operational procedures.
  • Repair or replace defective parts.
  • Service and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • May do some tack welding (a weld that is adequate in size to temporarily hold components in place until it can be completely welded by a registered apprentice welder or a journeyman welder) and fabrication as well as maintain an inventory of replacement parts.

Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Completion of a welding program and registration as a BC or Red Seal Journeyman.
  • Must have a valid Drivers License.
  • CWB and Pressure tickets are assets but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills and effective team-player.
  • Must be willing to participate in company safety and production requirements.
  • Knowledge of industrial and structural welding practices and procedures.
  • Familiarity with active construction sites.
  • Experience with welding in a construction or mining environment.
  • Experience with ironworking an asset.
  • Able to pass any pre-access screening, including a Drug and Alcohol test.
Duties:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene welding (OAW).
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
  • Operate brazing and soldering equipment.
  • Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and other metal straightening and bending machines.
  • Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers.
  • Welding and repair of machinery and equipment, structural construction welding and any other welding duties as assigned by the mechanical Foreman.
  • Operate previously set up welding machines such as spot, butt and seam resistance or gas and arc welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts.
  • Operate previously set up brazing or soldering machines to bond metal parts or to fill holes, indentations and seams of metal articles with solder.
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of welding, brazing and soldering equipment.
  • May adjust welding heads and tooling according to work specifications.
  • Hoisting and rigging equipment such as come alongs; chain falls, tuggers’ electric hoists and winches to maneuver and place materials.
  • Supervising, coaching and mentoring of apprentices.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
