This location is eligible for a remote incentive for 20% The remote incentive is paid bi-weekly and is a percentage of your regular earnings. This location is eligible for a travel incentive and the Extended Health Care Medical Travel Benefit

  • Third Class Power Engineer Certificate.
  • High school graduation with Math 12, English 12 and Physics 11.
  • A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver's License: Class 5 in good standing.
  • BC Hydro conducts pre-placement medical checks of applicants entering certain positions to help safeguard BC Hydro’s workplace.
  • As part of the selection process, you may be required to demonstrate successful completion of a pre-placement medical check.
  • This position is for a 3rd Class Power Engineer with a minimum of 2 years experience or completion of the Power and Process 2 year diploma from a Technical College is desired.
  • The completion of the on-site training modules and becoming able to carry out all the process and monitoring duties expected of the Shift Supervisor while on shift is desired.
  • Commitment to the Fort Nelson community is desired .
  • Self-motivated team player with a demonstrated willingness to learn is desired.
  • Commitment to safety is a requirement of the role.
  • Good computer skills is desired.

As per IBEW Collective Agreement:

  • The Thermal Plant Operations Technician is a Power Engineer holding a minimum of a Third Class Certificate of Competency.
  • Duties will include operating and maintaining the plant to applicable standards, procedures, guidelines, and regulations; including gathering operating data, maintaining logs and records, performing related clerical work.
  • Identifying and reporting equipment problems, identifying process problems, developing solutions.
  • Familiarization and on the job training of others, preparing emergency preparedness and response procedures as required, performing startups and shutdowns, and being responsible for substation switching under the direction of the Area Control Center, as well as performing all other related and relevant duties.
  • In addition to the operation and maintenance of equipment, this person’s duties shall include issuing instructions for safe, efficient and proper operation, and issuing or authorizing safety protection guarantees.
