  • Master’s degree in counselling, clinical social work, psychology, or nursing and two years of counselling experience with children/youth and their families.
  • Membership in a respective professional or licensing body, such as the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, Board of Registration for Social Workers in BC, College of Psychologists of BC, or College of Registered Nurses of BC.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with specialization in sexual abuse treatment of children and youth via education, training, or clinical experience.

Duties:

Dawson Creek Catholic Social Services requires a Sexual Abuse Intervention Therapist to provide the following services:

  • Evidence-based treatment and interventions to children and youth who have experienced sexual abuse, by means of age-and-developmentally appropriate individual therapy, as well as group therapy, as needed;
  • Best-practice interventions to treat behavioural problems, including inappropriate sexual behaviours;
  • Related prevention and support services for children, youth, and their families, including non-offending family members; and
  • Community and public education presentations and workshops to facilitate prevention and early detection of child sexual abuse.

Qualifications:

  • Training and experience are required in the provision of individual, couple and family therapy as well as in the practice of trauma-informed therapy.

  • An integrative practice framework is preferred.

Duties:

  • Assessment of client's needs as relating to the reason for the referral to the program.

  • Collaborative development with clients of action plan and interventions.

  • Direct intervention, including: (a) individual, couple and family counselling; and (b) facilitation of skill development in areas such as communication, parenting, assertiveness, stress management, grief/loss, conflict resolution, emotional regulation and coping with trauma.

  • Collaborative evaluation with clients of their goals/counselling outcomes and future needs.

  • Complete and accurate documentation of intakes, client sessions, client-related and program reports, as and when required.

  • Referral out to other relevant community service providers, as needed.

  • Collaborative practice with other involved service providers.

  • Receive supervision, as scheduled, and engage in consultation, as needed.
