Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Grade 12 diploma
  • BC Institute of Technology Building Inspection Course
  • Building Officials Association of BC Level 1 or 2 Certification (2 preferred)
  • Plumbing Official Level 1 or higher certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum one year experience in a trade such as carpentry or plumbing, and/or other relevant work experience, ideally as a building inspector in a local government setting.

Consideration may be given to candidates with Level 1 certification, though Level 2 certification is preferred. The successful applicant will have the ability to perform all duties in a safe manner and the required physical agility and ability to complete duties requiring physical effort. Duties:

The City of Dawson Creek requires an experienced Building Official (Level 2 preferred) to perform a variety of duties related to the enforcement of the BC Building Code and City of Dawson Creek Building Regulation Bylaw under the supervision of the Director of Development Services, Senior City Planner, or designate. The job involves skilled work including plan reviews, permit issuance, and site inspections primarily for standard buildings and structures, and may include occasional bylaw enforcement duties. Interpretation of the building and plumbing code, and local regulations and bylaws regarding construction and development including zoning and subdivision regulations, are routine functions of the position. The successful applicant must have the ability to use tact and discretion when settling requests, complaints, or clarifying information and be able to prepare concise reports and correspondence.

Duties:

The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for the one-year term position of Welder, starting as soon as possible. This full time term position will be of interest to individuals who wish to join a strong team in a growing community located in resource rich Northeastern BC. 

Under the direction of the General Manager of Development Services, Utilities Manager, Roads & Grounds Manager or designate, the Welder will be primarily responsible for production welding, service & repair welding, prototype building, and fitter welding.  Responsibilities will include fabrication of custom prototypes from supplied drawings, fabrication of custom jigs and fixtures to produce production parts that meet customer specifications, as well as the fabrication of metal structures using jigs and fixtures in a high paced production environment.

The use of various hand tools, machinery and equipment will be required to manufacture metal products. This position will work with Supervisors and Lead Hands to ensure continuous improvements in work cells, welding according to pre-set parameters using MIG, ARC and stick TIG welding processes. The Welder will be expected to assist the department by offering insight and knowledge of superior manufacturing methods, performing random maintenance on products to be refurbished or re-worked to usable specifications, and have strong knowledge and skill in operating all metalworking machinery. Additionally, the Welder will be required to read and understand production drawings, blueprints, work orders and other written instructions.
