Qualifications:
  • The technical requirements for this job would typically be acquired through 2 - 3 years of supervisory and management experience in a relevant role, preferably in a large unionized environment – note that an equivalent combination of education and experiences may be considered.
  • Professional qualifications (journeyman tickets, etc.) would be considered an asset, but not required of this position. 
  • Experience in project management would be an asset. 
  • A valid Driver’s License (minimum Class 5) is mandatory.  
Duties:

Working under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Manager will work strategically and operationally to support key maintenance and service programs and processes at Northern Lights College.  The Manager will recruit, supervise, plan, co-ordinate and direct a team of employees and all maintenance and servicing programs for buildings, grounds, equipment and vehicles for all of our campus locations.

Qualifications:

Duties:

The successful candidate will provide general facilities maintenance of college buildings, grounds, and equipment; with the expectation to operate and maintain all tools and equipment related to these functions. 

Duties will include painting and prep, lifting and moving items, deliveries, carpentry duties, snow removal and or grass cutting with appropriate equipment, operate and maintain service vehicles, etc.  This position may assist with the demolition and renovations to various areas on our campuses.

Job Title:

Senior Mechanical Services Worker

Wages:

Classification 17, $26.48 - $27.30 per hour, as per the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Temporary support staff receive $0.50/hr in lieu of benefits and 6% vacation pay, included with each pay period.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in HVAC with Plumber/gas fitting certificate (equivalent experience in the field may be considered).
  • Having a knowledge of electrical and computer operated (reliable controls) DDC heating and cooling systems is required.
  • Preference will be given to those who hold the above certificates and experience, as well as a Power Engineer certificate.
  • Experience with biomass boiler system would be an asset.
  • Experience in a maintenance function is essential.
  • Must hold a minimum of a valid BC Class 7 Driver’s License.
Duties:

The duties will be to carry out preventive maintenance and servicing for campus heating, ventilation, and plumbing, refrigeration and hot water systems in order to maintain continuous function. Will also be required to perform maintenance work on buildings, grounds and equipment, must be capable of operating mobile equipment such as tractors, loaders and forklifts. This position may be based out of either Fort St John or Dawson Creek, but would be expected to travel to surrounding NLC campuses when the need arises.

Those in this position are expected to work independently, as well as to be an effective team member, contributing to the overall dynamics of the Facilities Department.  Utilizing excellent troubleshooting skills, along with the ability to work in confined spaces and to have height tolerance, are expected in the day to day tasks of the work.
