Job Title: Day Care Assistant
Starting Date: ASAP
Wages: Classification 8 ($20.80-$21.45 per hour), as per BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Temporary employees also receive an additional $0.50/hr. in lieu of benefits, as well as having 6% vacation pay paid out with each pay.
Qualifications:
  • Early Childhood Educator License to Practice; ECE Assistant License to Practice may be considered with Early Childhood License to Practice studies in progress.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Must provide proof of compliance with immunization policy for child care settings.
  • Must provide a medical clearance indicating sound physical and mental health for working with children (prior to, or at the time of hire.) Standard or Child Safe First Aid preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills are essential.

Duties:
  • Provide care, education and assistance in a licensed group child care environment.
  • Co-responsibility for program planning and implementation of all aspects of child care provision for children between 30 months and school-age.
  • Assessing, observing and responding to children as required.
  • Facilitating communications with parents and other staff about children's progress and activities.
  • Carrying out routine care for children in a safe and responsive manner such as preparing snacks and meals, organizing special outings and providing escort to children and assisting practicum students as required.
  • Cleaning facilities and equipment according to Community Care Facility Licensing standards.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development is expected in order to maintain applicable standing with the ECE Registry.

Qualifications:
  • Professional Cook Training, Level 3 preferred.
  • Food Safe is required.
  • Experience with short order cooking, nutritious meal and snack preparation and baking.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
Duties:
  • Working independently, to prepare and cook a variety of meals.
  • Assist with menu planning/catered events on campus.
  • Short order cooking, food preparation, baking, assistance with catering.
  • Ensuring that Food Safe regulations are practiced.
