Job Title: Coiled Tubing Operator

  • Minimum one to two years' experience in the oil and gas industry with relevant driving experience preferred.
  • Enform H2S Alive, First Aid/CPR, TDG, Petroleum Safety Training (IRP 16), WHMIS, Hours of Service Training, Fatigue Management, Hand Signals Training (IRP 12), audiological testing and other training as required by HSE Manager or Operations Manager.
  • Class 1 Drivers License with 5 years driving experience on a manual transmission.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook to enable competency in all aspects of day to day operations involving spreadsheets and daily communication.

Duties: Reporting to the Site Manager, and under the direction of the Coiled Tubing Supervisor, the Coiled Tubing Operator is responsible for assisting in the efficient execution of various coiled tubing operations to meet client's needs while learning and applying coiled tubing equipment operations.


  • Learn and develop skills on how to conduct calculations for the job at the well site as needed.
  • Under the direction of the Coiled Tubing Supervisor or Site Manager, review and learns the different proper treatment programs.
  • Participate and learn about pre-job activities prior to leaving the shop or location to ensure the following: Required permits and pre-trips are obtained prior to travel, Documentation is available for compliance with the Department of Transportation regulations, Ensures adequate PPE and safety tickets are obtained, Ensures MSDS Binders and SOP Manuals are updated and available on site.
  • Provides feedback to Coiled Tubing Supervisor or Site Manager on the changing lease, road conditions and equipment conditions as they occur.
  • Assists Coiled Tubing Supervisor and Site Manager in spotting all equipment in accordance to government regulations.
  • Assists in the rig up (assembly) and rig-out (disassembly) of the coiled tubing unit, crane, nitrogen and fluid pumping equipment with guidance and direction from Coiled Tubing Supervisor or Site Manager.
  • Participates in pre-job and hazard assessments on location and provides feedback to Coiled Tubing Supervisor or Site Manager as required.
  • Completes all paperwork in a professional manner and submitted as per STEP Energy Services procedures.
  • Ensures all Workplace Safety, OHA, and HSE policies and regulations are adhered to all times.
  • Learn how to verify that the quantities, types of fluid, additives and mixing processes are to the levels requested.
  • Communicates all safety concerns to Coiled Tubing Supervisor or Site Manager in a timely fashion.
  • Under the direction of the Coiled Tubing Supervisor or Site Manager, be learning and assisting in monitoring and recognizing errors with data acquisition software, gauges and inspect equipment for efficiency to carry out job requirements.
  • Communicate with other workers, using signals, radios or telephones, to start and stop flow the work of the crews.
  • Explain various functions and basic mechanical understanding of the rig to others.
  • Apply knowledge and carry out procedures as directed.
  • Under direction, maintain transport trailer units, brakes, operating components, trailer and tractor air systems, etc.
  • Maintain and document maintenance in alignment with STEP's preventative maintenance program. (This includes being familiar with all oils used on the rig and using same procedures and sample points, etc).
  • Under the direction and supervision of the Coiled Tubing Supervisor or Site Manager, be training to operate controls that raise masts or level rig.
  • Learn and develop basic knowledge of the operation of associated equipment.
  • Follow all STEP JSA's and ability to alter as job scope changes.
  • Conduct all duties with a safe mindset and a personal and professional commitment to STEP's Core Values.
  • Identify hazards or potential hazards in all workplaces.
  • Be aware of and participate in the execution of the Emergency Response Plan (ERP), and weekly BOP Drills, etc.
  • Fill out all required documentation such as tour books, pre- operations inspections, safety meetings, Hazard ID's, JSA's, etc.
  • Daily review of Job Safety Analysis' (JSA). Review of JSA manual before critical tasks.
  • Assist and participate in the investigation of incidents, near misses and hazard assessments.
  • Strong ability to organize daily tasks and work within defined timelines to meet operational requirements.
  • Maintain a safe and enjoyable work area or job site by following company's policies, practices and procedures.
  • Believe and enforce HSE standards and practices.
  • Other duties as requested or required by the Site Manager or Coiled Tubing Supervisor.
