Job Title: Water Treatment Plant Operator-in-Training

Wages: $26.89/hr (after probation $29.88/hr)
Qualifications:
  • Position requirements include completion of Grade 12 and additional training or certification in water and wastewater treatment.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience in water and/or wastewater treatment, SCADA technology, or who have completed higher level relevant courses, training, and/or certification(s) in the field.
  • Completion of a water engineering technology program at an accredited post-secondary institution will be considered an asset.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to pursue continued education leading to Level 1 Water Treatment Certification and Level 1 Wastewater Treatment certification as a condition of employment. At a minimum, Operator-In-Training Certification must be acquired within the first year.
  • Computer skills and a valid Drivers License are also required in this position.
  • The successful applicant will have the ability to perform all duties in a safe manner and the ability to maintain harmonious relationships with all members of the public and other staff members.
Duties: The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for a Water Treatment Operator-in-Training position. Under the direction of the Water Resource Manager, or designate, the WTP Operator in Training assists with the operation of the City of Dawson Creek Class IV Water Treatment Plant and Sewer Treatment facilities.

Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate will have completed Grade 12, including chemistry and algebra, or have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Desired minimum qualifications include Level 3 Water Treatment Operator Certification, Level 1 Waste Water Treatment and Collection, Level 2 Water Distribution Operator, cross connection control and chlorine handling certifications, along with a valid Drivers License.
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum five years' prior relevant experience. Candidates with less than the minimum qualifications with proven skills and relevant experience may be considered.
  • The successful applicant will have the ability to perform all duties in a safe manner and the ability to maintain harmonious relationships with all members of the public and other staff members.
Duties: The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for a full time Water Treatment Plant Operator 3 or 4. Under the general supervision of the Director of Infrastructure, Water Resource Manager, or designate, this position performs a variety of duties related to the collection, treatment and distribution of water and wastewater.
