Candidates should possess a combination of education and experience that includes post-secondary education coupled with 0 to 3 years of experience.

Duties: General Laborers are part of the Production team who take on daily tasks not covered by other roles within the facility and also cover vacancies as needed due to absences, vacation, or other reasons. They perform all duties required by the supervisor and other members of the team in order to ensure the Mill runs safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities and Performance Standards

  • Follow the company safety program.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work environment in the shop and all work areas.
  • Follow and help develop Safe Work and EMS Procedures.
  • Follow all Lock-out procedures as required based on tasks assigned.
  • Use all PPE required when on the floor for job duties.
  • Report all incidents/accidents completely and accurately.
  • Utilize QJSA card to identify any potential hazards and corrective actions.
  • Provide input that would help improve safety, environment, quality production and maintenance performance in work area.
  • Follow all S.O.P.'s and J.S.A.'s that pertain to job.
  • Bring up any safety issues to shift manager in timely fashion.
  • Operate all equipment in accordance to design.
  • Report all environmental issues in timely fashion to shift manager and other applicable parties.
  • Run equipment as efficiently as possible to reduce waste.
  • Report spills immediately to shift Supervisor.
  • Train other personnel as needed.
  • Participate in the development of SOP's.
  • Take ownership and personal responsibility of the area.
  • Communicate clearly and timely on issues of the day.
  • Go over shift operations with cross shift. Clearly communicate all items of importance (quarantine, failures, operational issues, reasons for variance).
  • Work closely with co-workers to create a highly productive work environment.
  • Complete troubleshooting checklists as required.
  • Clean all areas as assigned by the supervisor using brooms, shovels, wash-down hoses, etc.
  • Inform Shift Supervisor of operational problems or potential problems.
  • Assist Millwrights and Electricians with troubleshooting and downtime maintenance.
  • Observe and report on the condition of equipment to minimize break down. Report equipment damage immediately.
  • Thoroughly clean areas of plant as assigned by shift leader or when in specific operating position.
  • Respond to fires, based on your training.
  • Report all non-conforming specifications/parameters.
  • Ensure that product leaving mill is meeting required quality specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiarity with Life-Cycle planning and long-term capitalization techniques for manufacturing facilities.
  • The ability to manage engineering projects/programs up to $500 thousand in size.
  • Familiarity with world-class manufacturing techniques, including Just-In-Time, Lean Manufacturing, and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with building products industry, equipment, and processes.
  • The ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to a variety of complex business problems.

EXPERIENCE

  • Zero to 5 years experience as a practicing professional in one or more of the following fields; engineering, capital project management, manufacturing, business process development or auditing.
  • Or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
Duties: Perform engineering work related to planning, devising or adapting methods to improve manufacturing production. Examine equipment, processes, operations and makes improvement recommends that are aligned with predetermined objectives. Under direct supervision, coordinate installation and/or construction activities related to capital and technical projects in a plant setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a capital program consisting of approximately 10 projects, valued up to $1 million with annual cash flow up to $500 thousand across a single facility.
  • Plan and execute all aspects of capital projects or technology programs up to $500 thousand in size including basic data gathering, engineering evaluation, scope-or-work development, preliminary design, cost estimation, financial analysis, detailed design, contract negotiation and detailed scheduling.
  • Assist with maintenance initiatives such as preventative / predictive system, chronic failure resolution or EOM project implementation.
  • Provide input to businesses and functions for the development of their strategic and operating plans.
  • Provide engineering/technical advice to co-workers in all businesses and functions.
  • Develop budget and manage performance against it for projects/programs managed.
  • Conduct training for engineering and other personnel in the areas of Engineering and Manufacturing.
  • Participate as a team member in leading business process improvement within the company.
  • Assume responsibility for personal safety and for the safety performance of all personnel, projects and programs managed.
  • Maintain Engineering records according to corporate Records Retention Guidelines.
  • Work closely with other Corporate Functions including Supply Management, Audit, Financial Services, Environmental Services and Information Technology to assure conformance with corporate policy.
  • Conduct special projects/studies, as opportunities arise, relating to technology and capital effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position works in both an office environment and in a manufacturing environment.
