Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • A recognized financial designation is preferred - CPA (CGA, CA, CMA) or a Master's in Business Administration with a degree in Accounting, Business Management or Finance.
  • Minimum five years of progressive post designation experience in strategic financial leadership, preferably in Local Government.
  • Thorough knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards, the Community Charter, the Local Government Act and other legislative regulations.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
    software and applications and local government financial software.
  • Excellent financial analysis, strategic planning, fiscal and project management skills.
  • Superior communication skills - able to clearly convey and receive messages through multiple mediums utilizing effective listening, interpreting, formulating skills and delivering verbal, non-verbal, written, and/or electronic messages.
  • Strong, well developed organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and judgment abilities - able to reason and analyze data to accomplish work objectives; ability to emphasize logic and data when assessing situations and identifying choices and/or opportunities.
  • Valid Drivers License.

The Opportunity: As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) you would be responsible for the City's financial planning, statutory and compliance reporting and administration of its financial affairs. You would provide financial advice to the CAO, Council and staff on decisions integrating business modeling and forecasting, best practices, risk management, asset management and innovative approaches to long term planning and sustainable and effective service delivery. You would be responsible for all of the statutory duties of the Financial Officer as required under the Local Government Act and the Community Charter.
