Qualifications: Basic/Minimum Qualifications:
  • University degree in mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineering designation registration with APEGBC.
  • Field based engineering experience with piping, pressure vessels, boilers, rotating equipment, and pipelines.
  • 10-15 years related experience.
  • Good knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g. CSA, API, ASME).
  • Excellent personal management capability, including time and priority management, organization, and accountability.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications.
  • Experience applying root cause failure analysis, hazard analysis, and risk assessment principles.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Valid H2S Alive and WHMIS certification.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in the natural gas processing and sulphur recovery within a related technical field.
  • Good leadership and team building skills utilizing collaborative methods.
  • Experience with federal and provincial regulations, applicable to gas processing facilities.

Additional Information:

  • Work location is near Chetwynd, BC.
  • Transportation will be provided from Chetwynd to Plant and back to Chetwynd.
Duties: Responsibilities/Job Description:
  • To deliver safe, reliable, efficient and environmentally compliant operations and projects, Spectra Energy requires a Mechanical Engineer to support and provide guidance to its operations.

In this role the successful candidate will:

  • Actively participate as a collateral partner with area operations and maintenance personnel to ensure personal & process safety, environmental, reliability, regulatory compliance, and business objectives are achieved.
  • Provide troubleshooting, repair, and modification recommendations as support to Operations and Maintenance.
  • Identify technical issues, risks, and value adding opportunities and appropriately address these through application of company and engineering management system programs.
  • Prepare engineering work packages as required for field implementation.
  • Provide engineering leadership and participation in management of change (MOC), incident and failure analysis, risk analysis, and definition and monitoring of operating boundaries.
  • Support capital and O&M processes by identifying and prioritizing risks, completing engineering investigations to provide root causes for solution development, supporting initial project submission processes, and providing subject matter expert input.
  • Deliver engineering governance and support accountabilities for major maintenance functions including facility maintenance shutdown ('turnaround') and large equipment overhauls.
  • Provide accountability for facility engineering issues and ensure resolution by levering resources that may include in-house technical staff and/or consultants or contractors.
  • Ensure codes, regulations, and company and professional engineering requirements, practices, and standards are adhered to and consistently applied.
  • Foster win-win relationships with management teams, functional groups, operations personnel, project team members, key stakeholders and contractors.
  • Communicate risks, status, and actions through established reporting methods to ensure management and stakeholders are informed.
